Why OmniTakeoff

Five differences that matter.

We're not 'PlanSwift but with AI'. We're a different architecture from the floor up — evidence-first, vector-first, active-learning per org, regional sanity checks, API-first. Here's the head-to-head.

Different from Vorrex / Vernier

Evidence-first by design

Every takeoff line carries a back-pointer to the exact crop on the exact sheet that produced it. Click the count, see the receptacle. Nothing is 'trust the AI' — everything is 'verify in one click.' Most AI takeoff tools surface confidence scores; we surface the evidence those scores are derived from.

Different from PlanSwift

Vector-first parsing

Most construction PDFs out of Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam are vector — every text run, line, and rectangle is encoded as geometry. We use pdfplumber to lift those primitives losslessly, instead of asking a vision model to OCR a vector PDF. Vision still runs, but it's a cross-check, not the primary signal.

Different from Bluebeam

Active-learning per org

Generic vision models hit a wall on proprietary symbol conventions — data center cabling, industrial process piping, specialty fire-protection. Our active-learning loop turns every confirm/reject into ground truth that retrains a per-org recognizer. Recognition improves substantially on org-specific drawings within the first weeks of active learning; specific accuracy curves are shared under NDA on discovery rather than published.

Different from spreadsheets

Regional sanity checks

Every line item gets bound-checked against a regional cost band (ENR city cost index) AND your org's historical average for that CSI division. The estimator's $160 vs. $16 typo gets flagged before submission, not after the bid loses. Decimal-place errors should be a solved problem in 2026.

Different from legacy on-prem

API-first architecture

REST API + webhooks ship with every account. Every entity in the app is also a documented endpoint. Need it in your custom dashboard, your QuickBooks workflow, your Procore portal? Plug in. We're the platform; we don't trap your data.

What we're honest about

What we're NOT yet

3D BIM viewer is on the roadmap.

We import IFC for quantity rollup but we don't ship a 3D walkthrough viewer yet. If you need to walk a federated model in-app, Navisworks still wins.

Native iOS/Android apps are in beta.

The PWA is production. Native shells (offline + camera) are limited beta. Procore Mobile and Buildertrend ship broader native today.

Concrete + framing trades are less mature.

Electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire-protection, and low-voltage are well-supported. Concrete and rough framing get there in a future release. Use the symbol-library active-learning loop to accelerate your trade if you're an early adopter.
