Getting Started

Uploading your first plan set

Drag, drop, wait two minutes. Here's what happens during processing and how to verify the takeoff started cleanly.

Your first plan-set upload is the moment OmniTakeoff goes from a demo to a tool. This guide walks you through what to expect.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign in and navigate to the project you want to upload to (or create a new project from the dashboard).
  2. Click 'Documents' in the project sidebar, then drag the PDF onto the drop zone — or click 'Advanced Upload' for explicit metadata.
  3. Watch the processing-progress bar. OCR + vision + vector parsing run in parallel; expect 60–120 seconds for a typical 50-page commercial set.
  4. Once status reads 'Completed', the takeoff is auto-generated and ready in the Takeoffs tab.

What we accept

  • PDF — vector or scanned, up to 100 MB
  • PNG / JPG / TIFF — single-image plans (e.g. photographed sketches)
  • DWG / IFC — coming Q3 2026
Tip

Larger plan sets process faster when you upload by section (architectural, MEP, civil) rather than as a single 400-page file. The recognizer's per-trade priors fire correctly when each upload's primary trade is clear.

Watch out

Avoid scanning paper plans at less than 200 DPI. The vision model loses accuracy below that resolution, and the vector parser has nothing to work with.
