What you'll do
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Own + evolve the Steel Yard design system
- Hire + mentor 2-3 more designers in the next 12 months
- Lead design on 2-3 major workflow ships per quarter
- Set the bar for accessibility, density, and information design
- Pair tightly with frontend engineers — design tokens, component contracts
What we're looking for
Required experience
- 8+ years product design, 3+ years leading designers
- Strong systems thinking — your portfolio shows design-system work
- Information-density experience (data tables, dashboards, dense workflows)
- Hands-on prototyping in Figma + ability to write production-quality CSS
- Empathy for estimators — boring tools done well > flashy tools done OK
Nice to have
Bonus experience
- Construction-tech background
- Past leadership of a design-system rebrand
- Accessibility certification (CPACC or similar)
